can anyone tell me how far aft of the mast should i put my pad eye for my vang?my boom does not have anything there. thanks for the helptom h23 caballo del mar
...turned up recommendations of not less than 30 degrees and not more than 45 degrees, with 45 degrees being the optimal angle. Angles are measured between the vang and the boom. I didn't quote any pages because they were all for rigid vangs. I would guess soft vangs would be the same.I'm afraid saying "1/3" of the way back is not very useful unless the boom for the reference boat is exactly the same height above the mast base as yours, which it may well be if coming from other H23 owners.
I just put my H23 in the water for the first time. Rigging was straight forward. But I wasn't sure where to attach the boom vang, does it go on the mast base pin?
Does anyone have a picture of the way the boom vang attaches to the boom, I have it all hook up, to the base of the mast and the boom, where does the free end of the line get made off to??Thanks,Alison
Alison:Not knowing your block and line setup and if you have a rigid vang system or the boom instead hangs from a topping lift, it probably will be hard for forum members to make suggestions. Maybe you could start with the following link to Harken's Boom Vang page. One of the illustrations might to your situation. Creative use of Google would yield other pages about boom vang setups.http://www.harken.com/rigtips/vang.php
(Hunter 23.5)I had to take out the mast pin, on the base, to put the boom vang end on, still wondering where the free end goes.I have a topping lift, that attaches to the end of the boom, and it is not a rigid boom vang.I will try to google...
after following your link, I think, I have figured it out, the block must be self cleating, so the line does not have to made off to anything, Thanks a bunch, will check it tomorrow, taking her out for her 1st sail of the season and as her owner.
