Does anyone have a hunter 410 with a factory vacuflush install?
I am deciding on new heads to replace the manual ones in place now. I would like to see component placement as in the tank and pump install locations. I also would appreciate comments on its reliabity and ease of use etc.
thank you

Check out the Raritan Marine Elegance instead.. Marine Elegance All china, everything contained in the pedestal, not scattered all over the boat...exceptionally quiet, designed to use pressurized fresh water. And considerably less expensive Rated best in show by Practical Sailor and gets rave reviews from owners.

Vacuflush too much involved install and takes up too much space and repair
I have the Sea Era but after seeing friends with elegance wish I had gone with Elegance

I have a Raritan Elegance on my 410 and love it. I have it connected to fresh water. The only issue is the door to the head barely closes with the seat down. I actually sanded a little bit of the seat so the door would close. If I would have thought about it before I installed it I could have moved it about and inch closer to the sink and avoided the problem.

you have dealt with various products on the topic. can you say this is your best recommendation? worth the money if it was your boat? It is pricey for the system but I am tired of the odors and problems associated with the manual heads. non boating guest don't ever deal with the setup well. I am looking for the minimum of at least ease of use as in a push button. only for the guest head. after that I desire no odor, ease of maintenance, fresh water only flush, quality that will last, willing to pay the price but must be the best.
thank you for your input.

I assume you placed it in the aft head? would it be possible to send a picture of the install? I would appreciate the pic. I am looking to install a new head in the fwd cabin. plenty of room up there for anything. Installed now is a standard jabsco manual head.
thank you

The Raritan Elegance is top of the line, and I know of one retailer who has it for about $650 including the 4-option "smart flush panel." But if your only objective is to provide an odor-free no-brainer toilet for guests (wise move, btw), there are a couple of other slightly less expensive options definitely worth considering...one being Raritan's new SeaEra QC, which is available as either a complete toilet or a "conversion" (everything south of the bowl), sea water or fresh water. The same two upgraded flush options available for the Elegance are also available for the fresh water version of the SeaEra QC. SeaEra QC Either of these would be an excellent choice as a guest toilet 'cuz everything Raritan makes is top quality...they're one of only two mfrs left who design and build for durability instead of "disposability"...Groco is the other one, but they only build two toilets, both manual.

If you can be happy keeping a manual toilet in the master, take a look at the Raritan Fresh Head--the first manual toilet ever that's designed to use pressurized fresh water...also available as a "conversion" that lets you re-use your existing bowl, seat and lid. FRESH_HEAD Promo Sheet .

Check all of 'em out...and I'll be glad to answer all your questions.

You can see I obtained water for the head from the shower line. Power went into the vanity then up behind the vanity to the panel. I also put a thin piece of metal under the toilet to cover the existing hole under the bowl. If you look closely you can see a little of the seat is sanded away.

I kept the maual seawater toilet in the forward head and only use it if we are going to the Bahamas where water is limited. I may switch it out someday with an electric but would keep the seawater connection.

I also provided a pic of the shower door I made. Much better than the curtain. PM me if you have any further questions or interested in some of my other mods.

I can't recommend anything that you've done to install that toilet. Connecting the shower hose to the toilet bowl is no different from connecting any other fresh water line to the toilet...something that should never be done to any toilet designed to use sea water because it risks contaminating the fresh water supply, damage to the toilet, or both...and every toilet mfr warns against it in their installation instructions. This story illustrates good reasons why: http://www.chron.com/houston/article/Worms-infest-Houston-suburb-water-supply-6415176.php If it can happen to a municipal water supply, your onboard water supply is even more vulnerable.

"Power went into the vanity then up behind the vanity to the panel" doesn't sound like the toilet is on its own separate dedicated circuit, with its own breaker, shared by nothing else that either reduce power to the toilet or have power reduced to it if both are on at the same time because low voltage is very damaging to motors--including toilet motors-- and other electrical devices.

I've been at this enough years to be pretty sure you're just gonna let my comments go in one ear and out the other...but with any luck I can head off others who might think it's a good idea.

Why do you balk with such self proclaimed authority without really knowing more details? Your analysis of my installation is compeltely full of you know what. If anyone is interested in knowing exactly what I did you can pm me. I am tired of Peggy's get on her high horse thinking she knows everything.

All the hubbub would be eliminated (no pun intended) by installing a composting head.

I didn't write the standards, I only report them, but when some people don't like the message, they shoot the messenger. As for any "self-proclaimed authority," I suggest you read my profile.

What's your problem? If you have an electric head made to connect to freshwater, then OK, just say so. If not, wouldn't Peggie be right in pointing out the issues?

Of course it is for freshwater and it has its own electrical breaker. Peggy just has to get on here with her self proclaimed autority and criticize people when she doesn't know what she is talking about. This is not her first time and I am tired of her arrogance. Just look at the way she just responded. Enough said.

Is the Elegance a good choice if you want to still use seawater as flush water?

I currently have a manual and the seawater is only an odor issue when you first use the head after it has sit all week. I don't really have an issue in just freshwater flushing it before I leaver yo prevent this.

The Elegance was designed to use pressurized fresh water...you'd need to add a remote intake pump to use sea water. If you're happy with a sea water toilet, the new Raritan SeaEra QC Raritan SeaEra QC is only a short step down the from the Elegance and is available in both sea water and fresh water versions...and as complete toilets or "conversions" (everything south of the bowl). However, the upgraded flush options won't work on the sea water version, only on the pressurized fresh water version.

Fwiw, there's lot more than just sea water odor issues to recommend switch to fresh water...no sea water mineral buildup in the system...lower amperage draw...MUCH quieter...lower flush water consumption...AND upgraded flush options.

Wish I could find that retailer, I'm seeing nearly $1000 for that toilet... :(

It's not as bad as people proving they know nothing.
