So, we had a great time sailing this week-end. Had folks over for dinner to the boat on Saturday night stayed overnight and then went sailing on a whim (the whole family, minus the dogs) on Sunday. We were out all day and had a fine time. The new 6:1 mainsheet works very well. I'll post a picture soon. The latest question concerns the jib fairleads. The V32 is the only boat I've ever seen with bulls-eyes to hold the jibsheet next to the house on the way back to the turning block & winch. Does everyone still use them? Is there any reason I would not want to remove them, or at least run the jibsheet outside of them? Thanks!

They do add friction . . .

but without them, the jib sheets rub across the large side port lights, and could cause friction burns from rubbing. Standup blocks would tend to rub against the side port lights as well. I'm sure there is a more elegant solution, but I haven't found it yet. If you think of something, let me know. Actually, I don't find the increased friction that objectionable. If I properly follow my tack by pulling in the jibsheet as the jib comes across, I only need a few turns of the winch to tighten the jib, even in heavy air. In lighter air, I mostly trim by hand. I find it fairly easy to do.
