In the last couple weeks I was able to rebuild the pedestal on my '82 columbia 30 so that I could use the transmission shifter on the pedestal, the original cable was still in the boat/pedestal but when it froze up the previous owner couldn't get pedestal apart so they installed a shifter in the cockpit. In connecting everything from the pedestal to the motor (Atomic4 with V drive) I realized that when the shifter is pushed forward it engages reverse and when pull shifter back of course it is engaged in forward. The Vdrive does have shift lever that sticks up (location where shifter I removed from cockpit was attached) and the other half extends below the shaft that goes into the Vdrive (basicaly a T). So I am wondering if the original cable was attached to the portion of the lever that sticks down as this would be the correct motion for the pedestal shifter. And if it should be connected to one of the lower holes how was the original cable routed? there appears to be many obstructions, carberator on side and motor mount directly back. Any input on original set up with a pedestal is appreciated.
Thanks
