I have a 1980 O22. My wife and I have spent a few overnight era on it. The V birth is a bit small for 2.

I hope to buy a larger boat within the next 2 years, nothing immediate. I was wondering if the V birth cushion length is larger in the 25. I assume it is but possibly the added boat length is consumed by another area.

Thanks

You can do what I did. I have a 22 and you are right. VBerth is small for 2. On my side, the side not where the head sits; I built a shelf to extend the bed about 5 inches out. That luggage area went from being uncovered to covered. No biggie. Took me about 2 hours and cost me a total of about 30 bucks with supplies. Exterior grade plywood, water seal, stain. Rubber pads for the bottom.

Instead of a equal V it is a V with one end longer and it works great. I can sleep straight and the wife and curl up against, if she so desires. It is also removable should you want to return the boat to OEM fashion. The rubber bottoms act as both a cushion and a brace. Keeps it from moving. Took a few tries the get the angle on the feet right, but with my oscillating saw took about 3 attempts to shave on each till I got it perfect. Until I have a custom mattress made (debating) I just push the pad up and use a camping mattress down at the feet since they don't really care at all.

Spooled, I have a 25 but I am not sure of the dimensions of the v-berth or on the 22. I will be at the boat the next couple of days and I will measure for you. Unless someone else has the dimensions off hand, feel free to post them. I do know that it is a bit tight, I am about 6'-0 and the first mate is 5'-8 and its, cozy to say the least. I am thinking of turning the main salon in to one big ol' bed. There are a few links around here on how that is done. I would then use the v-berth to store it all.

Thanks, I'm considering extending the bed for now. Eventually I would like to get something bigger. I like the O24 and O25. The 24's are hard to find, not that many made. I saw one recently on Craigslist, it sold in 3 days.

For the time being my 22 will do.

I can honestly say that the V birth on my 1986 O'Day 222 is plenty large enough for me. It's the most comfortable sleeping area on the boat. My wife and I have always slept in the V birth section. With the forward hatch open, I get a beautiful breeze in that cabin especially with a 5'x7' polytarp tied up over the hatch to keep out the sun and direct the breeze into the cabin.

Check this out.

That 222 looks nice.

I would think the 222 has bit more room. The boat is a bit bigger and wider.

The berth in mine is very comfortable. It's just that our legs get rapped up, they face the bow. It's okay for now. My wife and I are about 5-7 and thin so it does accomadate. I guess I'm spoiled by my King size bed at home.
