We noticed that the bedding in the V Berth of our 2000 Hunter 290 was wet on the port side about half way along the length of the compartment. It appeared to be dripping from the headliner at the sidewall. Thinking that the only access point would be the forward hatch over the V Berth. Noticing that the caulk was old and weathered, I resealed around the hatch with marine sealant. It has not fixed the problem. I do not see any issues in the anchor locker. I do not see anyway to remove the headliner to get a look at where its coming from. Does anyone have any ideas?..I am baffled.

Make sure all deck fittings like stanchions, bow pulpit, anchor roller, cleats and headstay are properly sealed. Water travels under the headliner, the leak may be showing up at a different location from the source. The source will usually be found on deck so I would refrain from removing the headliner.

check if the wire to bow lights is caulked where it enters the boat or the bow cage.

Last year I had water running in behind my headliner in the V-berth, I removed part of the wood trim from the overhead panel and found water comming in around a couple of wires from the deck. The wires are for my fwd. nav light running inside the bow pulpit stanchion where they go thru the deck. Just filled the hole and around the wires with caulk and that cured the problem...

I agree with Benny. Look under your port or starboard rail where the pulpit bolts down on the rail cap. Find those nuts and tighten them, or take the nut off and seal with your favorite sealant, then replace the nut and tighten. That is where my problem was. We spent countless hours laying in the V berth trying to find where the leak was coming from. I even let the hose run over it for over an hour one day. No leak. Follow the rest of the advice and you should find your leak.
