I have a classic Cal 30-1

I was having trouble raising the mainsail when sailing singlehanded, so decided to install a winch on the cabin top near the cockpit. That way I can stay near the tiller and try to keep to the into the wind.

I bought a Harken #6 on ebay. Turns out to be kind of small.

Question. If I wrap the halyard around the still existing winch on the mast, lead the halyard back aft with appropriate swivel bocks and leads, then wrap it around the Harken #6 on cabin top near the cockpit will the winch on the mast still be assisting the raising of the main when I am turning the smaller aftward winch?

Looking to get the use of both winches.

Thanks,

TC

If anything it will add more drag. It will help hold but not pull the halyard.

I was afraid of that.

Yes, I can move the mast winch. Actually, will probably move the stbd side jib winch from the mast.

Now I have an extra winch to sell! Should have asked someone.

Thanks,

TC

Save it. Eventually you'll have enough parts to build a second boat. I know I do.
