I trialed a honda generator before wanting to purchase. Using my power cord, I used the 110 adapeter to plug to the generator and the main connection to the boat. I noticed on the breaker panel there was a faint glow (red) indicating reverse polarity. Everything powered and the generator was activate all functions, but should the reverse polarity be a concern when using a generator? It wasn't full on (red), but faintly glowing.

Nope that is normal. Something about the and im not a EE but the boat doesnt see a ground from the generator. It doesnt hurt your system though. Does it with mine too. No problems in three years of use.

Cheers

The grnd and neutral are tied together on the Honda which causes this to happen sometimes - on my boat, the rev polarity light doesn't care nor should you. As Rick said, that is normal and safe.

I have been thinking about getting a Honda 2000 for my h38. Will it run one if the AC units?

Our honda 2000 runs our 16 k A/C no problem. If yours won't start, you can add a capacitor. available in land versions for $20 or less. Marine version near $100. also called a "hard start kit"

Guys thanks for the info - looks like it should work for me too at least for the small rear cabin unit for sleeping in the Texas heat.

Bill -- is the 'hard start kit' something you add to the generator or the AC unit?

Thanks again.
