I was searching for software ideas for using my iPhone and iPad on my O'day.
Practical Sailor has several articles on this and one mentioned using Evernote as a note keeper and pdf reader. I tried Evernote and I love it so I thought I would share here.
Evernote is free and has a Premium version. The difference being the free does not store your files on your local device. They are downloaded each time you open the file. The Premium will allow you to store files on the device.
The software does use the cloud to synch with all devices. I synch with my laptop, iPad and iPhone. I take both my iPad and iPhone on the boat so if one fails, I have the other.
What I put in Evernote:
1. I started by saving all my manuals in PDF format. Outboard, GPS, boat manuals and put them in EN.
2. I file all my order marine purchase confirmations and invoices in EN. EN gives you an e-mail address so you just e-mail your order confirmation to your EN account.
3. Clippings from web sites. Evernote has a web page clipper. Just highlight an article, click on the Evernote icon and what you highlighted is imported into EN.
4. I use EN for my sailing log, check lists and notes for my next visit to my boat.
5. Practical Sailor lets you download PDF versions of the issues. I have several in EN.
