How warm does it have to be to use caulking? I've got a bunch of projects that require caulking. I'd like to get started but it's pretty chilly in R.I. still. Will the cold temps make the caulk useless or just increase the curing time? I know I'm probably trying to rush things, but I've grown tired of waiting for spring.

you can try getting the caulking

above 65 degrees and after using it get it back to warmer area till the next item to be caulked, I had a heater going in the main cabin and that helped keep every thing soft and when I was on the ground I put the gun in the car with the heater going full blast

Last year

we caulked in the winter.....had a heater that we placed the caulk ontop of to warm it up. Worked fine and results were leak-less!

I recently caulked

the strut for my H28.5 back in place (after removing it to replace thec cutlass bearing). It was very cold out. I kept the tube of caulk warmish until ready to use it in order to assure a free flow. I also attempted to warm the surfaces that were to be caulked with a hair dryer. I know this caulk will take a longish time to fully cure, but cure it will. Be patient.

With plastic tubes I have even dropped them

in a sink full of hot water after they had spent the night in the car.

Should Tell You...

...in the instructions with the caulk. Some are different than others.

What Bert said

Read the instructions. Temp range and cure time. I applied a product within the temp range but because the night time temp dropped out of the range and the cure time was 24 hrs., the repair failed.
