Hello all:

My boat is currently on a 6 point stand, and I noticed that the forward pads seem to be carrying a majority of the load. The weight of the boat is on the keel, but because of how far aft the keel is, a lot of the weight is forward. My question is: would it be advisable to put an extra crutch under the boat forward? Is the hull strong enough to support a lot of weight in one spot? You can see that my stand may be a tad small, so would the extra crutch forward be a good idea?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Hey guy,

At my Club, we haul and set-up about 34 boats of different types. Our primary concern when using stands is to insure the proper support to balance a boat. Also, with wind as a major concern, all points should be supported. With boats like yours and mine, we ALWAYS add a bow stand as well as a stern stand to acheive this. it's well worth the extra expense to give peace of mind. Good luck.

My boat is up on 6 stands ( 3 each side, nothing bow or stern) and the forward two are definitely more forward than yours. For sure, the pairs must be chained together and that's a major stability factor.

I added a 4 X 4 crutch under the bow this weekend. It really seems to help. The boat is much more stable now when I walk on deck, which makes me feel better. Thanks for all of the input.
