Anyone ever used uShip to ship a boat? How was your experience.
I found a H26 in Ontario and I want to see if it is worth it to ship it to Alberta.

I used a farm equipment hauler to bring our c-26 from Ont. It was on a trailer but the trailer wasn't road worthy. That was 12 years ago and I don't think u-ship was around here then.

I brought a Catalina 270 from Missouri to Ontario using uShip. My experience was mixed. The first bidder was a crook. It cost me $500 and over four weeks of lost time. The second guy was great.

Do your homework. Research the bidder. Don't agree on any upfront cash. They will ask you for a downpayment (for the cost of fuel etc.). Resist as much as you can, and if you send the cash consider it a write-off.

Make sure that the bidder has a boat trailer; don't agree on having it hauled in a cradle. It might be cheaper, but it may hole the hull.

Before you decide on anything, check the professionals (e.g. Andrew's Trucking ?? of S. Ontario (Hamilton?, Mississauga?). They will cost more, but they really know what they are doing.

good luck

Rent a Ryder f350. Road trip. I know personally a number of people who have made this very run.
A good spare for the trailer, spare bearing set, grease gun and roadside kit, including good lighting, just in case. 6 days.

if you go yourself, go slow (80), watch the trailer bearings, take laser thermometer (to check bearings temperature, at least hourly).
good luck

This is the one I'm thinking of, located in London Ontario. Owner says trailer has been rebuild, I got a few bids in from Uship, they came up with $6400.00 deliverd to my door, I don't think that is going to happen.

keep looking or do it yourself. i paid $3000 for about 2000 km transport. yours is about 50% longer, though. but the boat is smaller and lighter.

My one and only experience with uship was that bidders knew nothing about sailboats. The questions I got convinced me that I needed to hire a professional boat hauler..
The Hunter is designed for trailering. You would be wise to get it yourself, even if you have to rent a truck. Just be sure, if you can, that the bearings are packed, tires and lights are good.

Another thought would be to look at kijiji ON for people driving this way (as in to AB) with a pickup truck. You might be able to strike an excellent deal. The boat must be insured (by you) first and check with the insurance company if they will cover damage etc, if a third party tows the boat for you.

Karyon;
I had a woman once purchase the 260 and trailed it by herself from North Carolina to Colorado. My concern was I-40 west thru the NC mountains which is not wide and down to 55 going thru two tunnels. If you are already pulling the 23.5 you have the experience sir. You just need a few tips to pull it yourself. Send me a private message.

Generally, using professional movers will destroy the value proposition of buying ANY small used sailboat.

Move it yourself or buy locally.

What Jackdaw said. If you can't move it yourself because you can't get off work, it may not be a very good deal. Since the question in your OP was 'wondering if it is worth it to ship to Alberta', I suspect you now have your answer.

i94? Crossing into the US? Good luck with that. Going in is one thing, and coming back out is another. Not to mention the possibility of a rental truck, declarations, insurance and suddenly you're into permit territory? Not in this lifetime thank you very much.
