Used Motor Oil as Fuel

I’d like to know your opinions on mixing used oil with your diesel fuel. I’m thinking a 10 to 1 or even a 10 to .5 ratio wouldn’t hurt anything and would be a valid way to reduce waste.

I have a Yanmar 3HM35F with a racor filter at 10 microns then the engine filter which is at 7 microns.

I put mine in a reclaim container and take it to Auto zone they have a recycling tank that you can dump it in (oil only), there are companies out there that collect the reclaimed oil, refine it and it is reused in multiple applications. I wouldn't what to use anything but fuel in our engine, just not worth the risk.

agreed, auto zone or other company that recycles oil for free is easier and less risky then trying to burn it.

@SailMaster your idea has some merit if you are in a remote area without any access to a recycling center. However, used motor oil has all kinds of crud and impurities and I don't think it ideal. Much of that would end up as sludge in the bottom of your fuel tank, might gunk up your filters and any finer particles of metal that get through the filters might increase engine wear.
I think a better use (if recycling collection isn't available) might be to mix it with heating oil.

I used the oil from my BMW Z3M as bar oil in my chain saw, and as fuel to burn out a stump....but I would not put it in my engine....

Thank you for all of the very valid input. I tend to agree with everyone here. The engine is simply too expensive to get back to optimum running condition if the wrong crap gets into the tanks.

A lot of auto repair shops burn their used oil for heat. It's free heating fuel for them, they even got to charge their customers to drain it out. They probably would be happy to take yours. I take all of mine to my nephew's shop.
If you're in a marina that does repairs, they might have a recycle tank.
Places like AutoZone will recycle your oil, especially if you bought your new oil from them.
