Use pipe dope or anti-seize on cooling water elbow

Another Yanmar 3YM30 owner told me the coupling/joint between the exhaust manifold and the mixing elbow in his h36 broke in half while under way, creating some excitement... I pulled mine it to clean/inspect, and the joint broke fairly easily while trying to separate the parts. Engine is 10 y.o. with760 hrs for reference.

$400 later I now have a new mixing elbow, joint, and exhaust manifold. To make future disassembly and inspection easier or at least more probable..., should I use TefGel or pipe dope on the joint? Both sides are NPT type threads with the elbow side having LH threads, not that it matters. The mixing elbow and exhaust manifold are cast iron and the coupler joint is stainless steel.

I used Teflon tape on mine. And yes my first one broke in half as well after 25 years. I'm 7 years into my second one.

Teflon tape here too. My new elbow and collar are stainless. Pipe dope should work fine.

Thanks guys. So teflon tape can take the heat? I'm thinking that disassembly every 2 years to clean the coke out of the elbow would help to keep the parts in a state where disassembly is possible. I found the price for the joint and exhaust manifold was consistent between Yanmar parts dealers. But the mixing elbow could be over $100 difference. Wow.
