As we had a discussion awhile back on methods etc for protecting ourselves while cruising, I thought the -link below- would be of some interest. Note that not just one cruiser was involved but two, and the second was armed. ICC issued a new report recently that the lowered piracy rate in the indonesia region due apparently to the tsunami has once again reached pre-disaster levels. With increases also in the Jamaica(Kingston) area and Hispaniola(Dom Rep/Haiti) areas. Sad state of affairs did

Standing your ground, during passare! HooYah!

It greatly pleases me to read about sailors like, "Mahdi" & "Gandalf" - "Violent Pirate Attack On Two Yachts Off Yemen, March 11, 2005" standing up for themselves. Not lying down, taking a beating or worst, being killed, by the thugs and priates. These comments & attitude will probably offend the daisy pullers and the bible thumpers, (Couch potatoes) that profess "turn the other cheek" attitudes. Too bad if it offends then! More sailors should get the proper training and carry adequate weapons at all times while on board their boats. "Mahdi" & "Gandalf" Good job! Hoo Yah!

Glad to Hear it

I have mentioned before it is hard to draw down on another person and fire. Incoming fire makes the decision much easier to make. It took some real balls to stand up against these guys with a shotgun but he did not have much of a choice. I do not think it would be my choice to be where they were but that is just me. I hope that there is a retaliation attempt so that he can fill the rest of these miscreants with buck shot.

I just dont understand the reason for wanting to go to a place or area where you know you have a good change of beign hurt, esp with all the other great places you can sail. I am sorry but that is just asking to be hurt.
