Hi, all. Just made my ownership official today. 1981 C30, "Sundance". I have some questions about some improvements I would like to make. First is the factory ice box. I have read about adding insulation to make them keep ice longer, but the access to the sides is pretty limited. Has anybody out there added insulation to their C30? The second thing is fairly easy. I am removing the inside carpeting. I am interested in adding some non-skid treatment on the smooth gelcoat floors. Any suggestions? Thanks is advance, this is a great site. montenido

Congrats on new boat!

I have added some insulation to my box. It is not to bad if you remove the drawer unit right next to it. 6 wood screws I think and the entire framework comes out and gives you pretty good access to 3 sides. Can't help with the sole, as we replaced our old carpet with new carpet and like the feel of a rug underfoot. Enjoy your C30, they are great boats fair winds Dave

Pink foam

I insulated the ice box on my '77 C30 a couple of years ago. As mentioned you will have to remove the draws and frame next to it which is very easy. I used 2 1/2 " thick pink foam insulation. I bought it at Home Depot. It's a time consuming job, give yourself a day. I cut the insulation and glues it to the outside of the box using liquid nails (and adhesive sold at Home Depot). I used duct tape to hold the foam in place until it cured. Once it cures I used RTV to fill in all gaps. For behind the box I removed the galley and drilled a couple of holes and shot it some poly insulation. The box is completly insulated on all sides and the bottom as well. I even cut and glued a piece to the inside top of the box. Make sure you have the newer "thick" top covers. My boat didn't and I had to make new ones which is another story. I think you can buy them on-line. As a result of the insulation I can keep blocks of ice for over 1 week. I crused last summer for 2 weeks. Before I left I loaded the boat with bocks and when I returned I still had parts of the original blocks intact.

Carpets

I ditched the POs soiled carpet too. The Sole is a pattern called Catalina Basket Weave. This is embossed into the gel coat. I bought new all nylon carpet with integral rubber backing from a bass fishing type place. I cut templates and cut the carpet to fit. No one could sew a binder edge onto this rubber backed carpet so I seared the edges with a propane torch. The result has been very satisfactory. The Carpet is not attached and can be removed for cleaning. To make the existing basket weave non skid will be a messy job in the cabin and hard on the knees when doing battery, engine and bilge maint.
