No this is not an advertisement. Many Garmin owners don't realize that Garmin allows you to update your Garmin 48, Summit, 175, 215, 225,etc. with their latest GPS software free. For examaple, the latest software version for the 215 & 225 is 2.12, 175 is 4.03, 48 is 4.58, and the Summit 2.07. You can determine the software version of your gps by turning it on. Frequently it is listed on the initial page. On the Summit you need to access setup/systemsoftware to view it.The upgrades have corrected program errors, added some features, and improved the operations of the software. For each upgrade Garmin provides a list of things that have been altered from the original program through each of the upgrades. You do need to have a pc to gps cable however. But if you are saving your waypoints, routes, etc., to a pc anyhow you will have the cable already. If not, the cable can be purchased directly from gps or your friendly gps store. To do it access the Gammin home page:http://www.garmin.com/Select the Marine button on the left side of the screen, Select the model gps you want to upgrade, then select Updates and Downloads on the left side of the screen and follow the directions on the screen. After you download the update to your computer, it is a simple 3 - 10 minute upload to the gps.My experience is that it does not affect waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.
