Well, finally got around to splicing the line (a constant diameter splice) myself. It turns out its not easy to insert the core of one end inside the shell of another, or shell inside shell, or anything. The fid tool helped little since I really don't know how to use it I guess. Got it done but not the conventional way, managed to get one core end 8 inches or so through the opposite end shell, then put some shell into shell from the other end, sewed stuff up at each end and middle, cut extra, and it worked. Mostly const diam, seems strong enough, but eventually I'll replace with a pre-spliced line from hood or somewhere and take everything else off to insert line.
