I recently purchased a 1985 Catalina 30 in Houston that will tranport to Noth Texas in 2 weeks. The marina wants to charge $650 to unstepped and prepare mast for trip. I think that is a little to pricey.

If you are going to DIY the process - what is the safest way to do it? DoI need to built an "A" frame? Where is a good internet site to fine plans?

i think the price is fair

Pablo, A while back I was researching the same thing and found a transport company charges something similar but was just a part of the services they offered prior to loading onto the trailer. They also charge for packing and mounting as well as nickle and diming everyother aspect of the transport. Despite my penny pinching mindset, I have the tall rig model and think its fair considering what boat yards charge to haul the boat out. I can't imagine using anything other than crane services to safety unstep a mast, but that's just my perspective.

Re: i think the price is fair

Joe,

Thanks for the prompt response... Yes, I resigned myself to pay price for safety and avoid damaging other components.
