Hi does anyone know what this is used for , the middle rod had a piece of rope spliced to it.Found it cleaning up

It looks like it could be a boom preventer.

Could it be that thingy that you use to hoist the jib when you don't have someone to hold it so it does not jam going up?

A pre-feeder I think is the term you’re going for. It doesn’t look like the pre-feeders I’ve seen, but I guess I wouldn’t rule it out.
