I recently purchased an '85 Cat27 Tall Rig (first sailboat), and it's time to put it up for the winter. My boat came with great Universal Atomic Diesel M-18 Engine, and I'm winterizing it for the first time. I'm using the owners manual as a guide, and everything seems to be pretty straight forward, but I'm having the damnedest time trying to locate the Transmission Dip Stick and oil fill hole.

I crawled down into the port side storage with a flashlight and opened the forward wooden vent to get to the tranny. My owners manual points to an area just above the transmission oil drain (I found the drain). I've looked everywhere. I ran my hand over every point of the transmission looking for something (anything) that resembles a dipstick. I keep coming up empty.

I know this dipstick and oil fill hole is notoriously hard to reach on a C27, given the engine location, but any insight into where to look, or, even better, a picture, would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm going crazy trying to locate this thing.

It's on the top, port side aft. Looks like a bolt. As memory serves, it is 14mm. To check, remove and wipe. Then insert back into hole, but don't screw it in. Remove again and check level.

I'm looking for a traditional dipstick with a curled piece of metal to thread your finger through. This tranny dipstick is a bolt? That's my problem: I'm looking for the wrong thing.

Appreciate the help!
