Looking for some advice. Just inherited a 1986 35 Ericson from a land sale. It has an Universal Atomic Diesel 5432. I have been able to get the engine running but I am not able to shut it down from the helm. I have read to pull back on throttle past the spring pull. I do feel the resistance on the lever but do not see any movement at the engine when pulling. Is their a separate cable that is supposed to be going to engine? Any advice on what the throttle lever is supposed to do when pulled on at the engine side would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. That makes sense. Looks like it was removed at some point.

there “should” but the throttle handle may also be designed on some boats to also pull the shut-off. Given the age, it’s likely someone may have also done some DIY crap.

Look at the mechanism at the throttle lever and trace the cable(s) back to the engine to see where it is connected to the shut-off and if it moves or can be manually moved.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations n your new boat!!

The attached manual describes the engine shutdown procedure on page 12. Post #3 in the thread below says to kill the engine you shut the engine down by pulling back the throttle completely as described in the manual. If you are lucky it might have an "fuel cut off cable" either in the cockpit OR possible in the cabin by the companionway (like I had on my 1987 Hunter 1987)? Post #7 says the engine kill switch to cut the fuel is entirely separate and down in the cabin area near the electrical panel.

Please let us know what you fin out.
