Just bought an O'Day 34, 1982 that has a Universal 3 cyl diesel. Anyone know which Kubota engine this is - or how to identify it? Would a Kubota # be on the dipstick?

Hello,
You probably have the Universal M-25 engine. That is based on a Kubota D 850 tractor engine.
Kubota parts are MUCH cheaper than Universal parts. I recently replaced the thermostat - Universal part from Torreson marine was around $60, from my local Kubota dealer it was $24. Same thing with the engine water pump. Universal was over $200, Kubota was $88.
If you do a google search you can find a parts manual that has diagrams, etc.

I have a 1982 Oday34 also but the engine is an M30. Sorry but I have never figured
out which Kaboto engine it is. If you figure it out, please post it. I may have to replace the water pump soon.

Came across this parts list for the Kubota L245 tractor and thought I would pass it along. The L245 has the Kubota D-1101 engine which is equivalent to the Universal M30/5424. I just picked up a set of glow plugs at my local Kubota dealer ~for $8 each. Torresen wanted $80 a pop.

Does anyone have the matching Kabota model for the 5416 universal deisel? I have an O'Day 30 and my fresh water (internal antifreeze pump) has been leaking a very small amount every time I run the engine.

Thank you for the information about the Universal Motor Company, you were correct it was very interesting reading. It also may help me in finding a cheaper alternative for parts, there is a Kabota tractor dealer within a few miles of my boat club in Conneaut, Ohio.
