My 1982 Oday 30 has a universal 16 hp with 2-blade prop, 16" diameter and about 2" clearance between prop and hull. I do not know the pitch. She seems very sluggish under power and as i dont have an rpm meter I cant give specifics, but I believe that a 14" 3-blade prop will be correct for the hp and transmision and provide much better performance under power. Can Anyone offer advise and in particular the proper pitch?

Prop Shop can tell you-

But you need to know your speed and RPM's. You need to chart the boat speed at various RPM's, correcting for wind and current. With this information, and your boat spec's, a prop shop should be able to tell you the best size and pitch. They may also be able to re-pitch your prop without replacing it. If you don't know anyone, try the link below. Pete Albright s/v Nancy Ross '77 H30

Propeller load

Hello Mark, I would agree with the other post that most propeller shops would have the ability of specifying a propeller for you vessel. I know that in my own shop, I would not feel very uncomfortable in recommending a propeller diameter or pitch if the Rpm’s were not known. There is little way for us in determining what the current propeller diameter and pitch is producing, with regards to load to the motor. You can take the existing propeller and modify its pitch to see whether or not it makes a difference to the systems responsiveness. If black smoke has been present, or slight over heating is taking place, chances are that your propeller is over loading the motor and pitch will need to be reduced. The tell tale signs of too little pitch is not so easy without the use of a tack. An engine under-loaded will result in an engine, which will speed away with little to no response to boat speed acceleration. I would suggest that with all the possibilities, it may be useful for you to call me and we can talk about it. 800-523-7558 Hope this helps. Kevin
