A question for you Hunter 41 owners. Yesterday as I way walking down to my boat I passed our local marina queen, a beautiful Hunter 41, who normally is sitting there with AC discharging out the port side, both fore and aft. On this day I noted there was no discharge, but on the starboard side high fore thru hull was discharging full force, obviously bilge flotsom as the entire marina was turning purple. The boat is sealed tight, the owner too busy to come check on his "little" boat since he is in Carribbean with new one, so we have no clear idea of what has occurred inside other than something really nasty. Any insight from you who are familiar with this boat?

I'm assuming it's not fuel as I think you would have diagnosed that immediately. Normally I would say that he left his thru-hulls open and one of them (or perhaps his bellows) have sprung a leak. The bilge pump can handle pretty significant leaks. The purple is puzzling. Antifreeze would be orange (or green if he didn't follow Yanmar's recommendations) and It's difficult to see how a significant amount could get into the bilge as the engine has a dedicated non-draining sump.

Maybe red wine?

I wonder if it is his salt water cooled refrigeration unit. Mine (H380) would do that when running at the dock. But the purple is puzzling.

Contact the marina management and have them get 'into' the boat or contact the owner.

This is pretty much a no-brainer methinks.

Oh, we long ago contacted marina management, we were just trying to head off a potential hazmat situation since red tape seems to take much longer than a bilge pump takes to pump a few hundred gallons of mixed, polluted scut into the marina.
