I have a UK Furling Mainsail. It appears that it has cracked and degraded. Has anyone ever changed one of these. It is 2"D x 1/2"W. I do not see an obvious way to change it without ruing the sail. Hopefully someone has done this in the past and can give me a clue (no pun intended) on how to go about replacing it.

I have enclosed a picture.

Thanks

My clew is a grommet but if you need to replace yours you probably would be best to go to the original sale maker or a rigger to replace the block. An image without the sail cover on it might get you additional suggestions from others.

The axle can be removed by grinding, drilling or cutting.. punch it out of the clew fitting.. replace sheave with a new one and replace the axle with a bolt and locknut.. the VELA folks can probably help with a new sheave.. The axle size is tricky because ya don't know what the diameter of the sheave center hole is until ya get it apart..

A sailmaker could replace the whole clew fitting..
