uh oh on the swing keel

looking for a drawing of the drop keel pulley system. We put my new old boat in the water last nite.. I love it! Acctually sailed her by myself for a trial run! But.. the swing keel seems to be stuck in the up position. or it only drops a few inches. thanks all for any all help Denise

Umm...

...I have to ask, but, are you sure you uncleated the correct line to lower it? Usually folks have the opposite problem - it won't come up. That said, there may be stuff jammed up inside the trunk, preventing the keel from dropping. The keel is fairly heavy - 80 lbs. or so I think. There's a 240 manual in the "Resources" section of this website - the diagram will be very similar if not identical to the 23. Good luck.

umm yes

Drew yes, the owner showed me the right ropes. and no it's not dropping. When the owner told me he never botherd to drop it when he sailed I pretty much expected this. The trunk 'm sure full of acorns and leaves. water won't even drain out the cockpit. Will be cking that friday. Thanks! Denise

There were not many h23s with swing keel. I have only seen one and it belonged to Ken from up around Toledo I think . I would be more concerned about getting that cockpit drain working . I know you want eveything to work , but the drain is pretty important from a safety standpoint . There is a short house that goes to the transom, it may be plugged up . good luck sorry I cant help with the swing keel , Mike

seems to me all of the hunters back then all had wing keels with the swing keel. Mine most definately has a swing keel! water drains.. slowly now. will probe more tomorrow.
