We have a 1986 Catalina 36 with the U shapped Dinette. We find this a big waist of space because you can not get into the seating area of the dinette very easily. Has anyone modified or some how changed the table to allow easy access to the seating area by moving, hanging, changing, throwing away the stock table? I would like to mount it on the wall or somewhere as I will need it when we turn the dinette into a bed. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

modified table

The absolute best modification that I have seen on the 36s dinette table was to shorten the forward, aft and inside (port) sides of the table by four inched and make it out of smoked Lexan....The people stored their regular table forward and only used it spareingly....Everyone thought it looked great!!!!!

Dinette space

I had a similar complaint with my 1982 - 38! I removed the pedestal mount and installed an RV recepticle mount that is nearly flush to the deck and use a small hexagonal table on an aluminum post. it is easily removable and easy to stow and provides table space for a couple as well as access to the port side of the salon. I have a shelf installed above the vee-berth where I stow the stock dinette table and cushon for converting the dinette to a berth.

Dinette options

We've rotated our dinette 180 degrees. Because the pedestal is not centered, turning it gives us much more walk-through space. It also makes it easier to get in and out. You could also check out the teak table options at www.teakconcepts.com.
