Type and size hoses for holding tank?

I'm about to replace some (if not all) the hoses to-and-from the holding tank on our 34' Hunter. At least one of the currently installed hoses is not keeping out the odors. What type hoses should I buy, and (if anyone knows) what sizes and lengths are used on a 1983 Hunter 34? BTW, (to be sure) I'll measure the size and lengths currently installed the next time I go to the boat. The type of hose is the most critical factor. TIA.

All sanitation hoses are standard sizes...

1.5" head discharge and tank pumpout, 3/4" head intake. All hose measurements are ID (inner diameter). Before beginning this project, I recommend you read the articles in the Head Mistress forum reference library (on the forum homepage), especially "Replacing Hoses" and "Installing a Head and Holding Tank" (which includes information about installing hoses) Replace ALL the hoses if you replace any...replacing only part of 'em is like changing only one sock because it's dirtier than the one on the other foot. Use ONLY hose that's rated for sanitation (the best on the market is SeaLand "OdorSafe" brand) everywhere in the system. It will be clearly marked on the hose.

Thanks Peggy.

I've read and printed all the articles you wrote. This weekend I'll do some critical measurements and "Saran-Wrap" all the hoses till I can do the hose replacements. Before I do that, I'll need to have the tank pumped-out. We're new to this boat, so I'll need to read the directions on how to do a pump-out. Do you have any words of advice on that subject? TIA.

Pumpout:

Make sure the tank is clear. 99% of vent blockages occur at the vent thru-hull, so check it carefully. The dockhand can show you how to attach the pumpout to the deck fitting on your boat. Pump out, then flood the tank with water about 1/4 full 2 or 3 times and pump that out to stir up any sludge and get rid of it...that's something you should do about once a month, btw.--every 4-6 pumpouts. Never just turn the pumpout operation over to a dock hand and walk away...stay and make sure waste is being pumped out and that the tank actually empties (about an inch will always be left)...if the pumpout isn't pumping any waste, stop immediately--your vent is blocked, the suction from the pumpout can crack the tank. That's about it, when it comes to pumping out.
