Hello All. We are planning to sail from Stamford, Ct to Nantucket and hoping to include, either going or returning, stops in Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk, perhaps Newport etc. We are leaving, weather permitting, on Saturday, July 3rd. Have made reservations in Nantucket for July 8th and 9th but these dates are subject to change depending how the trip goes as long as we give notice and they have availability. Not looking to kill ourselves sailing each day but are willing to put in some time, On trips of this kind we normally try to do about 60 miles per day. We will be sailing in tandeem with some friends from our marina and now have discovered that we have a slightly different idea as to how far to travel and where to spend the nights whether they be on he hook, a mooring or a slip along the way. Looking for suggested float plans. Thanks for any suggestions. Bob and Camille S/V Kathryn Stamford, Ct

Forget Nantucket :)

Come to Maine for the Maine Hunter Sailing Assoc rendevous and flotilla the end of July. It's cheaper, and the people are friendlier :)

Sounds Great

Sounds great and thanks for the idea, however, after visiting Nantucket some 30 + years ago (and many times since but only via the "big boat") it has always been a dream to sail my own boat there. I just think that sailing around Brant Point Light and seeing Nantucket is one of those things a sailor has to do, well at least this sailor. The island has changed so much :( and I have taken that into consideration, this will probably be our last visit. We are only spending one full day just for a little rest, hopefully - weather permitting, and will move on to other and better ports of call. The link below has no special meaning but kind of gives you the idea of my mind set. "Kathryn - H356" and "Sachem - Pacific Seacraft 37" will be leaving Stamford heading east on July 3rd. Keep an eye out and say hello. Bob Keller S/V Kathryn, Stamford, Ct

Some Ideas

Last year we did a nice little 9 day trip in our 356 that you could easily do in two weeks from Stamford. We went from Noank to Manemsha (sp?) on Martha's Vineyard - Nantucket - Hyannis - Newport - Block and then back to Noank. The year before we also set Hyannis as our furthest point, but we tried Westport, MA - Falmouth, MA - Hyannis - Block - Noank. That was great fun too. In either case there were really only 2 long days and most of that is just me avoiding Cuttyhunk! We usually rent a car in Hyannis and then can do some Cape sightseeing by land if we choose - ie day trips to Ptown, Woods Hole, etc. Hyannis Marina is quite nice - restaurant on-site, pool, ship's store, ok showers, laundry, etc. and a beat up old station wagon that is complimentary and you can take for a few hours if you just need a quick grocery fix. Ferries also run from Falmouth and Hyannis to the Vineyard so if you spend say 2 -3 nights you can Ferry over to MV for the day if you like. Manemsha is a trip - current RIPS at the entrance up to about 9 knots so you have to time it right coming and going and in Westport the water is about 3 feet deep all around the channel so it's a little freaky and also quite a bit of current. I would think about reservations that week though.
