It's official. I am now the owner of two Vega's. (oy!)
I just purchased hull #2933, a 1976 Vega with working MD6B, that was
advertised here a week or so ago. The boat was about 10 nmi from my
house. You might remember, I also purchased a 1968 Vega, #265 last
summer, in which I recently lowered the mast. In case you
haven't
guessed, I have decided I like sailing more than restoration work. I
have also decided that I want to get ready for some blue water
sailing sooner than just "some day". Having a boat that is
in basic
working condition trims several years off the timeline.
Sooo I have an extra boat to get rid of. The good news is that
since it is stored at the Navy base where I work, the storage bill is
a non-issue. The bad news is this limits my potential buyers. Any
buyers would have to move the boat off base, in order to have easy
access to it. I plan to advertise the boat here, on the group, and
in the local newspaper, this winter. I hope to find someone who
wants to do a restoration job. I am having the '76 boat hauled
at a
commercial yard for this winter (I plan to replace gate valves), but
hope to have my boat stands, which are holding up the '68 boat,
available for use next winter. So that's my target date to have
the
boat gone. If there is no interest by spring, I will do the epoxy
plug of the keel (see below), and start advertising on national web
sites and possibly Ebay. If I still can't offload it by next
Fall,
then I will probably strip the boat for parts, chop off the keel for
the lead, and break up what's left for the landfill. (I really
hope
it doesn't come to that!)
Particulars:
1968 Larsson (later became Albin) Vega
Hull # 265
Non-functioning Albin 0-21 gas engine. I have a box of pieces,
don't
know if complete.
Gelcoat is mud cracked. Survey recommends gelcoat removal and
paint. Some group users have recommended a flexible epoxy sealer and
paint. See past messages, or I have copies.
Bottom is wet.
Deck is wet. Survey listed as serviceable.
Survey is in Files Section as ST082102.zip
Proctor Mast, currently down and secured to boat.
There is an outboard bracket installed on transom.
No outboard engine.
No boom
No sails
Two 1/2" (12.7 mm) holes were drilled in lower aft part of keel to
dry it. These will need to be epoxy filled before relaunch. I am
willing to do this in the spring, or you can.
If someone local takes it, and has on-base access, then you can use
my boat stands until Sept. 2003.
Boat is dry stored at Patuxent River, MD, USA
Currently, storage fees are paid through March and haul-in fee has
been pre-paid.
Asking Price: US$ 0.00 (yep, free)
Email if interested. I have a few pictures I can send for interested
parties.
