Two unrelated questions.

What do you do with old wire? I have all new standing rigging and a garage full of old 1/4" shrouds and a 9/32" backstay. Wondering if it should be posted on "Gear For Sale". Smaller boats could cut off the eyes and studs, what I believe are the weak points. Then add their own terminal ends. I did look at salvage, just $1.00 a pound. Hardly worth the drive.

And should I retire my old DeWalt Orbital sander? Or can the motor be rebuilt? It still runs well after ten years of bottom sanding connected to a vacuum. But it has no real power. Is it just a matter of brushes? Maybe a new one at $60. is in the cards. Sure can't live without it.

I keep a box of scrap metal in my garage and when it get to 25# or so I put it out on the curb and someone always picks it up.

Wire of all types is in demand at recycle places,and as far as the Dewalt I would take it to a Dewalt repair store if its brushes its no big deal. Fair winds

You give it away? I will take it....

I Always have a pile of scrap and when it gets to a car full I take it to the salvage yard... This happens a couple of times a year. Last visit I got £500.

personally, I cut off the old bad ends, and crimp on new eyes and keep them to lock up kayaks, dinks to docks, etc...

I guess in a pinch they could be shackled together or use some spectra to replace a failed shroud. or reused on a smaller sailboat.
