I recently purchased this boat and am in the process of preparing it for Winter. Question 1 relates to hauling out. At my harbor, I noticed that some folks are pulling their Capri 22s out vertically via a crane attached to some sort of cable or straps attached to the keel boats. I assume this works for the Mark IIs as well. Who knows where I might purchase these cables/straps? Second question: Several of the mainsail attachments have broken (the plastic bits that slide up the mast). How do you remove them from the sail and where can I buy replacements? Thanks for your help in advance!

I would suggest asking the owners or the crane operators about the straps. THey may be part of the crane/hoist. Try the website sailrite.com for sail slug type replacements. (Do a search for the word: Slug ) Make sure that you have the correct size by measuring your old ones that are left.

Thanks. I'll check out the web site. No, the cables aren't part of the lift. Folks are purchasing them somewhere. Does anyone out there use this method of launching and retrieving their Catalinas? If so, where did you buy your cables/lifting straps?

Sail slugs for C-22

Sail slugs for a Catalina 22 should be 3/8 inch, althogh if you measure them you'll probably get 11/32 inch. You can use 7/16 inch, that will probably measure to 13/32 inch, but they may be a bit tight to get through the sail slot. Half inch will fit in the sail groove but they will barely slip in the sail slot. 5/16 is possible as well, but a bit small. These would measure out to 9/32. These slugs are attached to the sail with shackles that have slotted screws. Also, get the slugs with metal slines, the all plastic slugs can break at the sline.
