Hi everybody! One of the other posts made me wonder...can two people sleep in the v-berth of an Oday 22 and not want to kill one another? Just wondered! Thanks in advance! Jack Hart SEA-YA!

Depends

That depends on the person your with. If is is with my friend Joe it could be very bad. If it were my wife it would be very good. If it were my teenage sons sleeping up there it would be war. No matter how you look at it it will be tight. Scott "On Eagles Wings"

yes

Yes you can.............to a point. If all you're going to do is sleep, then it isn't too bad. Me and my better half spent 3 nights aboard my old 22. It was like camping in a 2 man tent. Most of the time we were in the cockpit or ashore. One night I went out alone and she slept in the vee berth and I passed out in the cabin.

Another qualified "yes"

The Admiral and I spent a night in the v-berth of my Oday 23. Actually not bad. Of course, the berth on the 23 is larger than the 22, but so long as you have realistic expectations, I'm betting it would work for you too. I do get a chuckle from the official Oday literature that says the 23 sleeps 5.

To answer your question....Yes. Wife, I and two sons (10 & 7) cruised for several years. One thing I did was remove the "table" and build a cabinet against the bulkhead. the wife and I took the "quarter bearths" and the boys took the V bearth. Worked fine.

most stable place on a boat

In my opinion, having slept in both places, I would have to conclude that sleeping closer to the middle of the boat is more comfortable that the V berth for a couple of reasons. Typically the middle or quarter berths are lower so there is less moment during the boat's roll. Also because you are closer to the center axis in a pitch an yaw, the action is less severe. Think of it as sleeping near the centre of a teeter-totter as opposed on one of the ends. I also like sleeping in the main cabin as it is more 'airy' than the V berth. In the summer, with the mainhatch open and covered with bug netting, it is ideal... and you get to watch the stars as you are lulled to sleep.

Sure you can

My girlfriend and I sleep in the V-berth of our 222 ( about the same size v-berth) all the time. I'm 6'2" and don't have any trouble (except getting in and out of the v-berth). It's cozy, but comfortable. By the way, you will probably want to add some sort of egg create foam, the cusions that came on our boat (the originals) are not thick enough alone. - Chuck
