I am told that the two part teak cleaners beat the hell out of teak? But then so does sanding whick takes small layers of wood off. Just how bad is this type of chemical cleaner on the wood. How about diluting the stuff so it is not to corrosive? comments...

Try not to sand

Sanding teak clogs the grain and pores of the wood, so any cleaning you would do becomes that much more difficult. I tried a one-step teak cleaner last season. I don't know if I just didn't work hard enough or if the product wasn't strong enough, but I couldn't get every last bit of mold off my handrails. Still looking for the least labor-intensive way to maintain teak. I have decided it is not a yearly application of Semco.

An alternative to two part teak cleaners

Try "Bar Keepers Friend". It is a powder cleanser product. Wet the teak, sprinkle on the powder, scrub with a brush and let it sit a few minutes. It's easy on the hands, easy on the deck and works pretty well. It also takes rust off the decks and stainless steel.
