Sail Trim articles frequently talk about trimming the Main to add or remove twist. How can I (or can't I) add twist to spill wind with the trim controls that come on mt stock Hunter 170 Daysailer? Main controls are midboom Mainsheet, Outhaul, Leechline & Vang. Jib has fixed sheet cleats. Thx, Joe

Use the vang
With not traveler, the vang is your major twist control. However, when close hauled, with the boom over the bost, the mainsheet pulls mostly down - often reducing twist by overpowering the vang. David Lady Lillie

Look under "Vang Sheeting" to controll twist with no traveller.In effect you use the boom vang as the main sheet and the main sheet as the traveller.You will probably need a vang with at least 8:1 purchase.If yours is less than this it is easily increased(look on page 27 of the 2004 Harken catalogue).
