Anybody catch a new show Shipwreck men, It looks like all these other wannabe reality shows like car repos, parking wars, and its just as moronic except its on the water. I don,t know any salvage co,s myself, but these guys are potrayed as a group of money grubbers racing around in and during hurricanes touting how dangerous what they are doing is while they try to grab as many boats as they can..They are constantly whining about how much money they need to survive, and how brave they are doing this dangerous work. Give me a break, I would be pissed if I were an established salver and my trade were portrayed this way.....just me..Red

Yeah, we have a storage unit nearby that had an auction last year for unpaid units. The guy that manages the place said they had over 80 bidders show up where before it was normally 6-8 estate sale type people. The facility did make money because the newbies didn't have a clue and frenzied.
I don't think a professional with a brain would get involved in any of that reality TV crap, it's asking for enough competition to drive the real guys out of business.
Kinda like sharing the location of your favorite anchorage or fishing spot with a few thousand of your closest SBO friends.....

I watched it last night for the first time and it was pretty ridiculous. Plus you couldn't hear much of what they were saying do to all the BLEEPS.

They had a hurricane coming in and they had to tie up one of their crane boats, I think it was like 35' or something with a barge like hull. They did have it in a place that seemed like it had great protection from waves. Then the producers needed to add a little drama so the guys had to come out in the middle of the night during the "worst part" of the hurricane and adjust their lines (which makes since with a storm surge). However they kept yelling how bad the waves were rocking the boat and that lines were "just about to snap!" but when they would show the boat it looked to me like it was sitting very quitely.

Just another reason I don't watch these so called reality shows on TV.

Wow -- yes, I did see the show "Shipwreck Men" and thought the very same thing. Its so pathetic and staged.

Yes! I just saw my first last PM. It is standard reality tv fare - overly dramatic and contrived. It portrays these guys as described above. But, it was fun to watch these yahoos raise the sunken boats etc. Seriously, they didn't anticipate that the air lift bags would tear the deck off that sunken sailboat. They say they've been doing this for thirty years. Sailboats have keels! How about the guys who ran that POS tee top up on the beach to salvage it. Then they realize it wasn't worth anything anyway. Really? They just figured that out! Or they were trying to put out the fire on the Bertram, which had nearly burnt to the water line when the Coasties told them to stop. So far as the story line went they didn't even survey the area for survivors before claiming the salvage. And, sadly it was the only program on in that time slot that I was even remotely interested in.

oh yeah the 3 stooges were out running around slapping their stickers on half sunk boats, meanwhile the father, the brains of the operation is hackin up his lungs, swearing at everything, when they went after the tee top, looked like homemade boat built by drunk teenagers, I couldn't take it and moved on to some more educational tv...Red

Television is the modern day bread and circus' for the masses. Every now and then I'll turn it on and flip through a hundred channels of nothing but garbage. What passes for entertainment or education (even worse) is sad. Even the discovery channel and the animal planet went to hell. I gave up on TV long ago.

The only "reality" shows I watch are American Pickers and PawnStars.... and I loved the Deadliest Catch. But these repo, timber cutting and pest control shows are ridiculous.

I love TV... you just have to be selective in your choice of programming. People who rag on TV are talking about dramatic programming....the value of television is in news and sports and special events.... but even the news broadcasting has become tainted since Rupert Murdoch came on the scene.

Seriously. We don't have a TV. We decided about the time we had our daughter that we didn't want her exposed to all the violence and crap that passes for today's TV experience. I got turned off TV when that show Survivor started. So many people got intrigued by seeing people act childish in an extreme TV island fantasy...( I work with people that just watch TV when they are not working... They seem to get something out of being the voyeur instead of being involved...?)
We do let Squeaky, our 5 year old daughter, watch TV as a treat when we are in hospital or at clinic with her. (She just finished all her treatments for Leukemia! She is doing great! And is cancer free!) Here is how much TV she watches when we go to clinic 4-6hr. (Maybe 25 min of Tree House while in the waiting room! Then she gets weighed and a blood test then...right to the craft room and that's it for no more TV. Her choice! I just follow her lead.)
All that said, we do have 2 laptops, 2 BlackBerrys, 1 Android tablet (for navigation and racing.) and high speed wifi. We don't sit and watch streaming whatever. I will watch the odd documentary or YouTube video with sailboats in it when she is in bed.
How boring would a reality show about reality show watchers be?

We don't have TV at our house either. But for Christmas we got the first three seasons of a ridiculous TV show called "Duck Dynasty" on DVD (stocking stuffer). A bunch of red necks who make duck calls for a living. I watched two episodes and reaffirmed my position to never buy cable or satellite TV.

Anyone want to buy a used DVD? Postage? Please?

I agree with all the above. It's typical of all these crazy reality shows and lousy TV.

BUT, it has boats! You won't find me watching it during sailing season, but during the winter, what the heck. It has boats... on TV. It's actually better when muted.

I totally agree with the position to never buy cable or satellite TV. BTW I works in the industry. Ditched satellite a while ago and gone Free-to-Air for news and PBS.

The TV industry has gone mad. There are 10 judge, numerous trash and people fights. I don't think that's entertainment.

I have a copy of Master and Commander on board. Other than that, a few Pirate of Caribbean for the kids.
