HAs anyone tried that "all directional" antenna you hoist with the halyard? I don't want to mount an antenna on the mast. Would preferr something I can use and store without eating much space.Any suggestions? I tried searching the archives. The old dates just kept giving me "Timed out".

It's ironic...

...that you asked because this weekend I saw one hanging in a guy's rigging. When asked about reception, his comment was - OK, not bad. I didn't pursue it any further. He said that he thinks he got it thru defender. It was composed of 3 or 4 metal band rings and looked like a 2' gyroscope hanging from his halyard.

Yes I have...

I have used a hoistable omnidectional antena for about a year. In the bay area it allows me to pick up about 10 TV stations with receptions ranging from Great to mediocre as compared to the built in antenna on a 9 inch portable TV.

Depends...

Depends on where you are. We found that in a marina you'll get great reception on one channel, then the boats (aluminum forest) will shift with tide or breeze causing the reception to disintigrate on that channel and improve on another. The signal disintigration usually occurs during a program you really want to watch.
