I have ordered new turning blocks from Rutgerson of Sweden to replace the old blocks on my 86 h31. Now I am wondering if anyone else has done this. These blocks are mounted behind the combing on two locations that are raised up for specifically these blocks. How do I remount these blocks?

I think that there is a backing plate!

Terry: I think when you remove the screws you will see that they are machine screws. You should be able to remove the old ones, R/R the caulking and screw the new ones down (assuming that they have the same spacing pattern). I would have gotten them from Garhauer, they will custom drill for you and their prices are very good.

Rutgerson still in business?

Same problem, Terry, but I understood that Rutgerson was out of business. We ordered two new blocks from Garhauer, as Steve suggested. They will custom drill the base plate to match the bolt pattern, and the price is right. I am also told that Garhauer is top of the line hardware.

Replaced mine with double-stack Lewmars

I replaced my turning blocks with double-stack Lewmars about 5 - 6 years ago and am very satisfied with them. The OEM blocks on my 1987 H31 were held in place by machine screws backed with pan washers. I made an al backing plate to match the footprint of the Lewmar blocks. The best way to get at the screws is to climb into the stern lazerette lying on one's back. Make sure you can get out, before you climb in. (I almost couldn't!)
