problem solved found one at sailors exchange in st augustine fl .......
really cool place ...the junk parts in that place made my day and they are very good to deal with along with being most helpful as well

anyone getting down that way should take time to spend some time there and have your shopping list when you go or you will be over welmed

If you are talking about the factory closed turnbuckles, you really should replace them all, as they tend to gall and even fail as they collect water in comparison to open turnbuckles. At least be sure to put it on your to do list to disassemble them, clean them, inspect them and lubricate them to prevent galling.

thanks for the heads up bob ....being of the anil mechanical nature that i am .....i will surly do that ....if indeed i find some in disrepaire i will locate some more replacements...the sad thing about the scj buckels is the $180.00 cost each....when looking at open ones i also found them to be very pricey as well.....one thing i intend to do is coat the threads with raw bees wax on reasembley....not sure how the wax will hold up in the salt .... but i am willing to give it a go....useing bees wax sorta dates me as being and old timer...lol

I don't think I paid nearly that much for a turnbuckle from Rigging Only. I can't recall the exact amount, but a 12 FBJ jaw and body...assuming you were going to keep your stays and just change out the closed bodies, is $50. Just the body is $27, but I'd encourage you to change as much as possible if you are going to do so. The when your replace the shrouds you can just order them a little longer than the spec in the manual and cut them to fit using a compression fitting at the bottom. Even the riggers are using exclusively norseman or hi-mod or Sta-Lok mechanical fittings at the bottom these days. I used a Sta-Lok on mine and with a little help from the internet it went very smoothly. The biggest pain is getting someone to climb the mast for you ;-)

Mainesail posted this on another site. Now, I'll be the first to admit that the S2 turnbuckles are darn beefy compared to this and that this one is quite rusty, so perhaps concern of water retention / corrosion is minimal for the 9.2A. However, I can personally confirm that galling led to the yard turning a double kink into my back stay (because the turnbuckle wouldn't rotate) and a $200 back stay replacement I hadn't planned on. At least be sure to clean and lubricate.
