I have a 1998 45' hunter cc with a stuck turbo charger. Anyone have a spare one hanging around? Or does anyone have any advise on how to fix it? I am told a new one will have to come from Japan and take two months. Help.
Stuck???
will not turn?
will not activate the waste gate?
sparrow spit stuck in the intake?
Most turbo problems are cooked oil in the bearings resulting in a galled bearing. They can be replaced but make sure they are the +20k RPM type.
I would want to know why it "got stuck" before i replaced it with a new one and the same thing happens to it.
Turbo fan blades can get stuck in the soot on the exhaust outlet side. Sometimes the soot can be scraped out to allow the blades to turn. If you need a replacement, most diesel shops also rebuild turbo chargers. The rotors are highly balanced so I wouldn't suggest changing the bearings on your own.
But you need to understand why it went bad. is there an oil flow problem or just carbon fouling the blades or something else. The oil flow passages to the turbo get VERY HOT and it can smoke the oil in the passage reducing the flow...... and seizing the bearing due to lack of cooling oil flow. if you just replace / repair and don't fix the problem the new one will fail in short order.
