I have a 1984 Oday 28 with a Hood furler. I can't figure out how to tighten the forestay. It's way too loose now, yet the mast is raked aft too much already. Is there some way to tune this, or do I have to buy a new (shorter) forestay? If so, how do I know how much shorter I need to go? Thanks in advance.

I have one

I have a '79 with a Hood SeaFurl. If you call Pompanette, 603.826.5791, they can send you a manual for your system, if you don't already have one. On mine, you can trim the forestay down if you need to make it a lot shorter, or there's an adjustment under the drum where the tack fitting screws into the rest of the assembly. If you want, I can email you the fax they sent me with diagrams of the parts and internal construction. Kevin

Thanks Kevin

Thanks, Kevin. I do have the manual, but it really doesn't go into adjusting the stay tension. I was looking at the furler today, and was able to get a look at the bottom of the turnbuckle by picking up on the drum, but I couldn't get the drum high enough to get at the turnbuckle.
