I am having a hell of a time tuning the mast. I bought the boat as a repo and the mast was down and the mast struits disconnected. It seems to get the mast straight as per H26 Owners manual I need about a half an inch more on some of the schrouds. Can I just buy a longer screew thing that goes into the turnbuckle to get the extra length? And if so is that a good idea? Anybody else ever have this problem? Thanks for any ideas. The boat is a H260 '03 model. Tip again in Corpus.

go to a sail rigging store/specialist

the solution should be simple. just get the right professional advice about the right turnbuckle or extender. I've entended a shroud by about 2-4 inches.

H260 Rigging

Tip, it's possible the boat was never rigged properly or some hardware is missing, but I doubt it. When properly set up, the rigging is pretty tight. That last two inches is the hardest part. I have to use the mainsheet AND the boom vang to pull the RF that last inch or two so it can be pinned in the forward hole. See this link on rigging the H260: http://kobernus.com/H260_web/b_r_rig.htm That said, the advice to consult an experienced rigger for your first time is right on. As in all things, it helps to have someone who "knows the ropes" show you the way....

Tip, one misstake I made

Was attaching the shrouds to the wrong attachment point. Make sure the shroud from the spreader goes to the turn buckle towards the aft, the shrould from the mast goes to the forward buckle. I had crossed them and couldn't tension them properly. Also check Ray Bowles procedure which is for a H26 but also works on the H260. Was going to provide the link to it but it looks like I screwed up the link on my site. Will fix it tonight and post tomorrow. It might be available elsewere. Doesn't Make Sense!

I am sure these boats are all stock production line products and all our parts are the same. Something must be wrong! It might be wise to hook up with a fellow H260 owner in your area for some help. The only thing that I noticed with my H260 is that in the spring, when I raise my mast, the shrouds fit tight and require me to back the turnbuckles out all the way. I was even concerned how far I was backing out the turnbuckles and, at one point, was considering installing longer "U" bolts. But after a week I wind up tightening the shrouds - the point being they do stretch a little. I'am not sure stretch is a good choice of words here but they do "settle in" a bit under 650lbs of pressure. Good Luck!

You may find this interesting

The fact that when my 260 is tuned up the starboard side shrouds rub against each other.
