Tuning a fractional rig

I know that this issue has come up many times but now I cannot find any of the material I had previously collected! This is my first fractional, double spreader rig and I cannot get the tuning right. The mast is slightly raked but has a very slight 's' curve when viewed from the side. There is slight fall off from the uppers to the mast head to leeward on port tack only but I cannot tighten the upper shrouds anymore as I have run out of thread. I am thinking that I should start from scratch; loosen all shroads and start again. Could anyone out there recomment a book, monograph, or web page reference on tuning such a rig? The instructions from Hunter are a little fuzzy.

The Legend 33.5,35.5,and 37.5 do not have a B & R rig. The link that you posted works for the B & R only. What makes the B & R rig unique from other fractional swept spreader rigs is the 'diagonals'.

Best Book for tuning

Clear, digestible, and portable. Not full of outdated info that does not apply to later boats. The curve is not unusual for some hunters. my 27-2 has a very distinctive curve (not rake)

Darn, Alan, You Are Very Right

I get confused with that terminology too  . My Legend 40.5 isn't a B&R either. Sorry 'George' for the misleading link. And thanks, Alan for keeping an eye on this. Rick D.

Legend 37.5

Alan/Rick - I always thought my 37.5 had a B&R rig. There are no diagonals, so it seems I have a different rig. Is there a name for the rig, other than a masthead rig?

Video

Buy the Brion Toss video on tuning, it's very good. Check your standing rigging carefully, something may be wrong if you have run out of threads.

Guys (Gals)

This issue has come up time and again about the B&R rig. Hunter has both B&R and the standard(no name) rig on it's boats. The procedure for tuning is very different for the two types. If you have 'diagonals' then you have a B&R, if not then you don't. I remember having this discussion with Lars Bergstrom about this very point.

Video

Buy the video on the Brian toss web site. In the video he does a regular hunter double spreader rig (non B&R - NO DIAMOND wires)

Call John Kerry

Hey George, you should know by now. Just call John, he has the answers to everything. All kidding aside, listen to Alan, cause he knows to.
