Can anyone furnish me tuning specifications for a 1981 hunter tall rig?

Exactly what specs do you need? There is a system for stepping the mast, for tightening shrouds, for approximating the tension (I do it harmonically!) and other questions.

You might search archives here for any of my older posts as I have put some comments on this before. (Use my name as my login/ID recently changed)

Do not assume your boat may still have original riggin or that it may have been re-rigged to specs. The most common wire is Stainless steel 1X19 strand. Google a table for the breaking strength for the different diameters and once you identify your size you may tighten to 10-12% of the wire's breaking strength. Keep the mast straight and start with clean and well lubricated turnbuckles. Believe the backstay is split and the tensioning wires are of a smaller diameter than backstay. The proper tension for each of the tensioning wires should be roughly 1/2 of the proper tension of the main backstay wire. Once the static tensioning is complete take the boat on a brisk sail to finalize adjustments. This is a good time to check mast support and compression post as their condition will determine wether the tuning will hold.
