Wondering if anyone else had similar problem as this.
I discovered that there was a recall of a certain brand of ball valve, of which my boat - Hunter 44 - had 10 of 3 different sizes installed. Hunter agreed to replace the valves at no cost and to reimburse the related costs of the repair, including the marina labor and haul-out, which amounted to roughly $1,300.00. The marina estimate was sent to, and approved by, Hunter Marine. The valves were sent to me by the manufacturer and the yard completed the work after which the bill, which I paid as per Hunter's instructions, was mailed to Hunter accounting for repayment to me. That was back in April of 2011. Since then I have purchased about $300.00-$400.00 in parts and replacements against my surplus account and have asked Hunter on a number of occasions to send the remaining balance to me. I have been in contact with Eddie Breeden and Al Fooks via phone and email, both for ordering parts and for inquiries regarding the money Hunter agreed to pay for the valve replacements. I have never received a response from Hunter bookkeeping despite many attempts through Eddie and Al. I have not even received an account statement and that department does not accept phone calls nor do they have an email contact. I have sent them letters in care of Hunter Marine with no response. At this point I would like to contact Warren Luhers directly but am unable to find an address or email. This is unfortunate because I have been dealing with Hunter Marine in one form or another for well over 12 years without any difficulties. In fact their customer service has been outstanding - until now. I could never understand the negative comments I would occassionally read about Hunter because of my positive dealings with them. Unfortunately, it only takes one experience such as mine to sour a person who has owned 2 Hunters. Anyone have suggestions?

With Problem Like This ..................................

............... I have had good luck with sending a registered letter to the department which has screwed up, telling them exactly how they screwed up. Along with that, send a copy of the letter, by registered mail as well, to the highest person in the company you can find. This would likely be Warren Luhers as you have found. Using registered mail you can track your letter and see who got it and and when.

I did this with Ford Motors Canada several years ago and got a free upgrade vehicle for my efforts.

Just me or is this confusing - "the yard completed the work after which the bill, which I paid as per Hunter's instructions, was mailed to Hunter accounting for repayment to me. That was back in April of 2011. Since then I have purchased about $300.00-$400.00 in parts and replacements against my surplus account and have asked Hunter on a number of occasions to send the remaining balance to me."

Sounds like you sent H the paid bill for $1300 and now have another $300 - $400 in expenses you want paid from some "surplus account".

Don; forgive the confusion - I will clarify. Once the bill was submitted to Hunter Marine, I then had occasions to order some replacement items through Eddie Breeden and Al Fooks that were charged against the $1,300.00 ball-valve replacement bill, thereby reducing the amount that Hunter owed me by $300.00-$400.00. Currently Hunter Marine owes me roughly $900.00. Another interesting development: I ordered 3 cockpit seat latches, the cost of which was to be credited against my account. The latches were back ordered and finally sent to me in August - along with a bill! I sent a letter to Hunter accounting complaining/explaining that the latches were to paid out of my surplus account. I have never even received a response. Needless to say I did not, nor will I, pay the bill.

Outsourced?

Do you happen to know if they outsourced their accounting? Maybe Eddie can tell you. Might make a difference re: approach.

Re: Outsourced?

Rick; there was no indication from Eddie or Al that accounting was outsourced. In fact, both said they would forward my several different inquiries to the accounting department.

I believe that Eddie is out till the end of the end of the month and Al may be a bit swamped. Give Greg Emerson at Hunter a call. He may be able to help get it straightened out.
