Hey MS,

I imagine you are quite busy this time of year. I hope you have a minute to weigh in on this.

I am looking to get new batteries but choices are a bit limited here in STT. I have come across a decent price on Trojan T105 Plus and T105 RE batteries. I've done the measurements and I should be able to fit the REs given the extra height. And I like the discussion on increased performance on solar. But I can't find any good info on how they will do on a mobile platform like a sailboat. My concern is that the electrolyte reservoir is too shallow and the plates will be too exposed while heeling even with proper orientation.

Thanks and Fair Winds.

Just to add to my above question, I received a call from Trojan Tech Support. I had a great discussion with a gentleman from Georgia. The T105 RE can deal with a 23.5 degree tilt along the longer access (same orientation you discuss in your orientation article). The T105 RE batteries are actually almost an inch taller. That is due to more electrolyte, it has a larger reservoir.

We also discussed which of their batteries would work best in a liveaboard/cruiser environment. This came about because he suggested AGM batteries if I was concerned about the degree of tilting. He said the T105 RE would be the best they have with dealing with partial state of charge. The traditional lead acid, like the T105 Plus, would be next best and AGMs behind those.

It was an interesting discussion. I am leaning towards getting the T105 RE batteries. Now I have to make sure I have the additional height capacity.

Thanks,

Jesse
