I am thinking of taking the boat on a trip in the next few months and want to know what others have done. Maybe 3-5 days. I have been to/from Egmont Key and/to Anclote Island. What is it like north, how far have you been, and the same for heading south.

Thanks!

A nice trip south would be to Venice and back, maybe staying at the Crow's Nest Marina at Venice Inlet. On the way down, you could stop inside Longboat Key, or visit Sarasota. It's a great sail if the weather is good. If not, you can always go by way of the ICW.

You may take a couple of short trips quite close to home. Go up the Manatee river and get a transient slip at the Twin Dolphins Marina in downtown Bradenton or take the Intracoastal at Ana Maria island. There are some funky marinas along the way and anchorages too. Either trip can be done nicely in 3 days.

South is the better option. Several of the guys out of the marina here in Dunedin have sailed down to Venice, making stops along the way. The accounts of their trips, sounded wonderful. While other guys that have sailed north, say the is nothing once past Anclote Island till Cedar Key.

Cruising guide

Come on down to Charlotte harbor,we go north every year up to Tampa and farther north Tarpon Springs with our Sailing Club.
Pickup a good cruising guide like Skipper bob has all the bridge info and Anchorage info and so much more too.
Sail out side or go in and into ICW so many great places to visit,we love doing the trip north every year and we are planning our south trip down to the keys 1st week in April for 3 or 4 weeks

Go South! The trip down to Coya Costa at the mouth of Charottle Harbor is an easy dail sail and the island is a park, protected anchorage and nice walking trails. Boca Grande across the channel has shopping and restaurants as well as trips up the river to Punta Gorda etc. You can go down outside or take the intracoastal.
