Business will give me an excuse to travel to National Harbor, near DC, from Middle River MD in middle Nov. Has anyone made this run and if so any thoughts?

via water? In mid Nov...rather cold and unpredictable weather....a very long day just up the potomac, another long day from the mouth of the potomac to nap town and likely another day naptown up to you.

Have done the naptown to DC a few times, and Deltaville to naptown for the boat show several times. It can be a miserable, up hill battle if the weather acts up.

Others will chime in I am sure...

Did the Herring Bay to Quantico in 17 hours and 43 minutes moving the boat this spring. Having crew helped as we did it over night. With a full tank and motoring the whole way and (a lot of ands) a favorable sea and crew that you can trust at night you could make it in two days. The navigation is a piece of cake except for the east west section just upstream of the Route 301 bridge on the Potomac R. The section is loaded with WEIRD depth contours that take a good long look to figure out. Nov can be nice if you have an enclosure and the sun is out. After dark you are going to want coffee, coco, soup etc and a good set of woolies.

Yes figure weather is a key factor, heat only possible when on the dock and then its a tiny little ceramic electric heater. Knocks the chill off but that's about what its good for.

Appreciate the input. Hard to guess distance. I know it would not have been possible with the old power plant, the new engine, a good crew and some cooperation from the weather and figure it might be worth a try. I am also thinking maybe to preposition the boat the weekend before at a friends dock in Solomons to cut the length of the run down into manageable chunks.

Some years ago, I was a "guest crew" on the tall ship "Pride of Baltimore," and sailed from Annapolis to Alexandria and passing National Harbor on the way. Nice trip but we motored most of the way up the Potomac. I was at the helm when we passed through the area that Bill Roosa describes quite accurately just north of the Rte 301 bridge. Keep a close eye on your depth sounder and an eye on the chart as there are many charted and some uncharted shoals there. National Harbor is a nice place to visit with lots of good, albeit expensive, restaurants.
