Hey fellow Carolinians, I have a 1984 hunter 27 that I keep moored in the Brunswick River near Wilmington, NC. Most of my travel is on the Cape Fear to and from either Wilmington or Southport. Several times a year, I make the treck up to the Pamlico area for a week or so. Since I still have lots of family in NJ, I'm thinking of a trip to NJ and wonder if I should go up the Cheasapeak to the Delaware or go out at Virginia Beach and go up in the ocean (obviously only if weather is good). Looking for advise. Tony

Weather,Weather,Weather

I sailed down from Montauk,NY to Cape Hatteras,NC all out side in the ocean
and was no picnic out on the ocean or going in at Cape Hatteras inlet with my Hunter 36 and crew of four, needless to say we all took turns at getting sea sick.
We stayed inside to Morehead City Inlet and than outside until Cape Canaveral,FL,with some nasty weather a long the way.
I would stay inside when ever weather outside is not good for you and your boat, plan your trips outside according to weather and make sure you plan a entrance back in at good inlets just in case weather go's bad or also need to make sure when your go outside your boat is all good, you don't want any engine or rig problems on the out side.

Any time to cruise Delaware Bay?

That would sure weigh in our plans if we had your opportunity.

Check the archives, because I remember a number of descriptions of both routes (but more of the bay and the canal) on this site.
